The group first met on 14th March 2012, it was great to see so many “ladies”, with loads of fabulous ideas. It was decided the group would meet in the fourth week of every month, and the days will be changed, to enable everyone to have the opportunity to join us. The group will not have any subs etc, just a “pay as you go” system and travelling will be shared.
Cornwall Coastal Walk
Members of the Friendship Girls met on Wednesday 22nd March in the Sunday School Hall for a presentation kindly given by Mrs Mary Street on her walk around the coastal path of Cornwall. Mary has actually completed all of the South West Coast from Minehead to Poole in Dorset and total of 630 miles. The Cornish section covers 295 miles, from Welcome around Land's End and back to Cremyll. Mary covered this on 32 different sunny days. She prefers to walk alone and include her other hobby, photography. Obviously when walking alone with her thoughts she observed many breath taking coastal views and captured them on camera with a wonderful use of perspective and attention to detail of rock formation, flowers and fauna along the route. Most of us present have lived in Cornwall and Devon all our lives and hadn't even heard of some of the coves and beaches Mary photographed. Mary is fortunate in having a very patient and dedicated husband Neal who accompanies her to her starting point then occupies his time with a paper and snack and a snooze (his words not mine!) then drives to pick her up at her destination. Neal also supports Mary when she does her presentations by setting up the projection equipment and running the presentation, what a team they make! Everyone enjoyed the evening and it has inspired us to start a walking group which anyone (men and women) are welcome to join.
