The group first met on 14th March 2012, it was great to see so many “ladies”, with loads of fabulous ideas. It was decided the group would meet in the fourth week of every month, and the days will be changed, to enable everyone to have the opportunity to join us. The group will not have any subs etc, just a “pay as you go” system and travelling will be shared.
Christmas Table Centrepiece
16 members had an enjoyable evening on Monday December 3rd when Janet Ward came to demonstrate how to make a Christmas table centre. Janet showed us how to start building up layers of foliage of which she had a wide selection all cut from her own garden! She also gave us useful tips about not making a table centre too tall so you can still see people on the other side of the table so actually make this arrangement whilst sitting down! Janet made it all look so simple, once the foliage was in place covering all the oasis then she strategically placed some beautiful dark red carnations to enhance the finished effect. We all then made our own having been inspired by Janet’s suggestions. Pearl Hopper had very kindly provided a lot of greenery for us all to share. Janet also showed us how to make ribbon bows which could be incorporated into the arrangement. We were all delighted with our creations which all looked very different but using the techniques that Janet had shown us. We usually make a donation to our speakers if they do not have a set charge but Janet was insistent that it went to a charity. As Pearl had organized the evening it was decided to give £25 to Cots for Tots a charity that provides accommodation for families whilst their children have surgery at Bristol hospital that has been used by Pearl’s family and another family in the village during the past few months. A huge thank you to Janet for an informative and inspirational evening as a useless flower arranger myself I came away thinking I might actually try another one!
